My Story

This is the story of my path to Data Science

I pursued my under-graduation in Mechanical Engineering at Mahindra École Centrale. Mahindra École Centrale is an engineering college in India setup in collaboration with the Mahindra group and CentraleSupélec, Paris (previously École Centrale Paris). Despite being a Mechanical Engineer, the core courses and interdisciplinary approach at Mahindra École Centrale, made me explore all the fields. In this process I developed a lot of enthusiasm in programming in the first year of my bachelors.

After the end of first year, I was able to secure an internship with Professor Arya Kumar Bhattacharya to work on an industry live project (Smart Grids) for the Canadian state of Ontario. In this project a model to forecast the electricity demand on a local power grid was made. A series of Artificial Neural Networks were used to achieve this. After the success of Smart Grids project, I continued working with Professor Arya on a Machine Learning algorithm, Support Vector Machines. Several modules for non-linear classification and regression with Support Vector Machines were developed.

I developed interest in Data Science while working on the Machine Learning Projects. After exploring more about the field and gaining experience through Internships, I decided that Data Science is the field I should be pursuing my career in. From then, I never deviated from my goal. I took all the Data Science related courses available as electives at Mahindra École Centrale. I also decided to choose my final year project on Stock Price Estimation using Data Science. In this project, the historical stock data, historical news and tweets of a company were used to estimate the future stock price. The pattern of a particular stock was captured using recurrent neural network with Long Short-Term Memory. Natural Language Processing was used to incorporate the insights from news and tweets.

To further develop my knowledge in the field of Data Science, I decided to pursue Masters in Data Science. I also want to learn the data analytic methods used in businesses. Hence, I pursued Masters in Data Science and Business Analytics at CentraleSupélec and ESSEC Business School in Paris (3rd best Masters program in the world in this field). Although the Masters was very challenging, I got a chance to work on several Data Science Projects considering their business implications.

As part of the Masters, I had pursued an internship and thesis on reducing the energy consumption of a building by controlling its HVAC system using Deep Learning at an Energy & IoT based startup, Airboxlab in Luxembourg.

Since 2020, I started working as an independent Data Science Consultant in Switzerland. By working as a Data Science Consultant, I have gained the experience of working in diverse projects with companies in multiple domains. I have worked as a Data Scientist at Facedapter, Geneva (in the domain of face recognition and identity verification technologies using AI) and a Zurich based startup (AI based candidate screening for a given job requirements). I am currently working as a Consultant Data Scientist for L2F SA (Giotto AI), Lausanne (in the domain of natural language processing, computer vision and time series analysis). My current work involves developing a platform for medical device companies in speeding up the clinical evaluation process for getting their medical devices regulated using AI.

I would like to continue pursuing my career as a Data Scientist and explore its applications in multiple domains.
